Recently, I made a comment to get in better shape. So, I began exercising at a local gym two to three times a week. No, I didn’t join a gym, I had the gym membership for a year. I paid faithfully every month, however, it wasn’t until recently, that I became determined to be a better me. I jumped in head first, running like crazy, sweat was pouring from my body, and twenty seconds in, I had second thoughts. But if I was serious about being a healthier person I had to change. It’s not that I am sick now because I’m not, it’s that I want to be healthy. Per the Bible, man was created in the image of God. I don’t think He would tire doing simple chores, so why should I. Getting to my ideal place is going to take time. I didn’t get out of shape overnight and it’s not reasonable to think I will get in shape overnight. I started off slowly and began to push myself a little further. Yeshua said the poor you will have with you always. I know I am taking it slightly out of context, but I believe it is not a huge stretch to include those with poor health that would be with us always. And just like my body needs to be healthy so does my faith.
I believe with perfect faith that Moshiach will come. I believe that until He does come I have a responsibility to help people believe in God. No, I don’t think I can make people believe. I feel that is something only God can do. I know I am responsible for helping people to trust in God. And that requires action and faith.
But just like getting in shape building up my faith takes effort and it takes time. In the meanwhile, people are still sick, confused, hurt, lost, and in a state of disbelief. And why shouldn’t they be? The people that say they believe God are in the same state. Sickness is not only a condition fated to the ungodly. Confusion isn’t exclusive to those that don’t believe in God. The people of God are hurting, so many are lost, others are in such of a state of disbelief they are giving up on their families and life itself, even going to the point of walking away from God or committing suicide. Just like those people that don’t have a Hope the people of God are falling by the way. And the worst part of this is they don’t understand why.
They are saying why do I feel like this or why do I have suicidal thoughts and tendencies. The solutions and answers that so many of us are looking for or hidden from us. The answers are hidden in plain sight a few inches from our noses. We have been hurting so long that we are unable to believe because of our cruel bondage as in Exodus 6:9. God still wants to take His people to a better place. He wants to take us from our bondage, oppressors, and hurt and he still wants to redeem us and be our God. He still wants us to be His people. He has never wanted us to be in the types of distresses that we find ourselves tangled in. How do we get to the place He so longs for us to be? How do we change our thinking so that we are no longer consumed with despair looking to a hope that we no longer see coming? It takes faith.to a hope that we no longer see coming? Your problems are real! Your hurt is real! The pain you see when you gaze into the eyes of your loved ones is real! The tragedies on the news is real! And more importantly GOD is Real! Just like it will take be time to get my body in shape, it takes time to build up your faith. But it all starts with a desire.
The writer of the Book of Hebrews put it like this, 11:1-2 KJV ‘Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report.’ Then the writer tells us in verse 6, ‘But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.’
Unlike building muscle and endurance which the body demands time to rest and heal, building up our faith is every second of the day effort. Like building a better body, both require work and time. Hebrews tells that we do not have to reinvent the wheel or start our faith walk from scratch. It gives us examples of people who believed God and obeyed His will. What did they do? We must do the same.
I have heard people say God doesn’t do that kind of stuff anymore. He’s not healing the sick, or raising the dead. He lives that up to medicine and science. False teaching. God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He does not change. Unfortunately, there’s no shortage of doubters. And so many of those doubters have taken over our thinking to the point that we have joined the ranks of doubters. But it’s time to change our thinking and embrace the will of God!
Just like when I started running, I gave it my all and twenty seconds later, I was huffing and puffing. Now I can run 1 mile in under 15 minutes. I believed that I could do it. Then I started at the beginning with the first step. Sometimes, it seems hard to believe, after all, that mountain in your life, is a mountain, it’s big, it goes on for miles in EVERY direction. But remember, God created the heavens and the earth and he measures all the waters in the palm of His hand. So, remind yourself who’s bigger, your problems or your God?
Starting in Luke 9:37 KJV we learn about the lack of faith the disciples had and in verse 40-41 it reads, ‘And I besought thy disciples to cast him out; and they could not. And Jesus answering said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and suffer you?…’ Or the events of 2 Kings 4 when a child died and the problem was hidden to the prophet and his assistant couldn’t heal the child later when he was sent.
This is a journey that God wants us to succeed. He has equipped us with the tools to win but for too long we have only believed God for salvation. It’s time to see the power of God.
I am not just talking about faith. I believe God. One of my sons was born deaf. He hears! I started having unexplained seizers, I tested negative for everything they could test me for find out why the seizers, the last time I had seizers I had was hospitalized for 4 days. Finally, I was told I would take anti-seizer medication for the rest of my life. I was content with that answer although I didn’t want to accept it. Then after four more months of taking different medicines I began to see myself healed. I started reading the promises of God, writing the promises down to pull them out were ever I was. And I started seeing myself as His next success story. I haven’t had a seizer in almost 3 years and I haven’t taken medication in over 2 years.
I am working on my faith. Yeshua said that when a disciple reaches maturity he will be like his master. Yeshua is my master. And He said, John 14:12, ‘Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater [works] than these shall he do…’
I can only speak for myself, I am sick and tired of being sick and tired and I want to see the greater, I want to be a part of the reason people believe in God. I want to see the salvation of God not just in the hereafter, I want to see the salvation of God now, in my life and in your life. I could be wrong but how much more effective witnesses of Yeshua would we be if we could lay hands on the sick and they recover, or raise the dead to show the power of God. To speak to that drug addict and they are healed. Speak to the those who doubt the power of God and show that He is real.
What are the steps you will take to increase your faith? Many of us believed in God the moment we heard of Him some of us it took longer to believe. But regardless now is the time to see the salvation of God in our lives, the lives of friends and family, those we see on the street, and for all Israel. It’s time for a revolution. It’s time to the see the salvation of God and not only read about His might and power as we point people to the True and Living God. The God who is never changes and never will.
Let’s take the next step together!
