If You..

I am an over the road truck driver. And I am convinced that one of the major reasons for not texting and driving is because if you are texting you can’t read the billboards. Some of the signs are funny, others insightful, some are boring, and a few very interesting.

In the last two weeks two different signs have caught my attention and made me think. One was ‘Pray to End Gun Violence’ and the second one was ‘Pray to End Abortion’. They weren’t together or in the same states.

Now, I believe with all my heart that using guns to violate people is wrong. And I am very much against abortions, that baby did nothing. But what if the people who are praying for legislation to ban guns and abortions get their wish and the president signs both bills today to outlaw guns and abortion, would either stop?

Would that make Dr.’s stop preforming the procedure on 13 year old children with or without parental consent? Would that Bill to ban guns stop murders? Please tell me you answered no to both!

Question, is it better to be beat to death with a hammer or shot to death with an AR-15? Is one death more honorable than the other? Is the person shot more dead than the one bludgeoned to death? Or is the gunman more evil?

Would legislation to end abortion stop child abuse? Would it make families stay together? Would it stop abortions? Tell me you said, no.

Violence is wrong, regardless of the tool used against a person! Bullying is wrong! Cyber bullying or face to face. It’s already illegal to murder. We should know by now making something illegal doesn’t deter criminals.

The signs made me think about how easily we get sidetracked. We look at symptoms and assume we know the problem. Neither banning or heavy restrictions on gun and rifles will end violence. Legal action won’t end abortions.

However, what if we prayed for love? Love would cure world hunger. Love would put an end to violence of any kind. Love for ourselves, our families, our neighbors, our classmates, our coworkers, our cities, our states, our country, our world! What law is there against this kind of love? How is that possible? Love is about action not talk.

Murder isn’t wrong because of the method used to extinguish life. Murder is wrong because it is the ultimate expression of hatred. It is the hatred of self, society, and God.

Love is the only cure for hatred in any form. Love is so powerful it ends racism! Homelessness! Broken relationships! The list goes on and on. How many victims of rape are there in a world filled with love?

Addressing the symptoms only will always lead to poor choices. Let’s fix the problems in our world. Let’s love one another!

Love is patient and kind, not jealous, not boastful, not proud, rude or selfish, not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not gloat over other people’s sins but takes its delight in the truth. Love always bears up, always trusts, always hopes, always endures. Love never ends; but prophecies will pass, tongues will cease, knowledge will pass.
