Blog Series: “What Love Is”
Shalom Friends,
We’ve explored what love is, what it’s not, and how it rejoices in truth. Now we arrive at the final—and perhaps most challenging—truth: real love endures.
Paul closes 1 Corinthians 13 with this powerful line:
“Love never fails.”
In Hebrew, the word for “endure” is סָבַל (sa·val)—to bear, to carry, to persist under weight. Love isn’t fragile. It’s not seasonal. It’s covenantal. It stays when others walk away.
📖 Enduring Love in Scripture
- Hosea and Gomer (Hosea 3:1)
YHVH tells Hosea to love his wife again—even after betrayal. That’s chesed (חֶסֶד)—steadfast, covenantal love that mirrors YHVH’s heart. - Joseph and His Brothers (Genesis 45:4–5)
After being sold into slavery, Joseph forgives his brothers and provides for them. That’s rachamim (רַחֲמִים)—compassion that overcomes pain. - Yeshua on the Stake (Luke 23:34)
“Father, forgive them…” Even in death, Yeshua’s love endured. He bore our sin, shame, and rejection—and still chose mercy. - Psalm 136 (entire chapter)
Refrain: “For His steadfast love endures forever.”
Hebrew: לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ (le·‘o·lam ḥas·do)
Love that outlasts kingdoms, failures, and generations.
🪞 Self-Examination: Do I Endure in Love?
- Do I love people when they disappoint me or only when they meet my expectations?
- Do I stay committed to truth and compassion when it’s costly?
- Do I reflect YHVH’s enduring love or do I give up too easily?
Enduring love isn’t passive. It’s active. It’s a choice to carry, forgive, and remain faithful—even when it hurts.
🛠️ Call to Action: Love That Stays
This week, let’s practice love that endures:
- Reach out to someone you’ve distanced from—restore the connection.
- Pray for strength to love through difficulty—not just ease.
- Meditate on Psalm 136—let the rhythm of enduring love shape your heart.
Love that endures isn’t weak, it’s divine. It’s the kind of love that builds families, heals communities, and reflects Messiah’s heart.
