Part 3: Love Rejoices in Truth

šŸ’¬ Blog Series: ā€œWhat Love Isā€

Shalom friends,

Let’s talk about truth. Not the kind that’s weaponized to win arguments, but the kind that sets people free. The kind that love rejoices in.

Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 13:6:

ā€œLove does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.ā€

That’s a bold statement. Because in today’s world, love is often confused with tolerance, and truth is mistaken for judgment. But Scripture shows us that real love doesn’t celebrate lies, flattery, or compromise. It celebrates truthā€”אֱמֶ×Ŗ  (’eĀ·met)—even when it’s uncomfortable.

šŸ“– Biblical Snapshots: Love + Truth

  • Nathan and David (2 Samuel 12)
Nathan didn’t flatter King David—he confronted him with truth after the Bathsheba incident. That was love. Risky, righteous love.
  • Yeshua and the Samaritan Woman (John 4)
Yeshua didn’t avoid her past. He named it, then offered living water. Truth led to transformation.
  • Leviticus 19:17 – ā€œYou shall not hate your brother in your heart, but you shall surely rebuke your neighbor, and not bear sin because of him.ā€
    Hebrew: תּוֹכ֓יחַ (toĀ·khiĀ·aįø„) – ā€œrebukeā€
Love corrects—not to shame, but to restore.
  • Proverbs 27:6 – ā€œFaithful are the wounds of a friendā€¦ā€
    Hebrew: נֶאֱמÖøנ֓ים (ne·’eĀ·maĀ·nim) – ā€œfaithfulā€
Love doesn’t avoid hard truths—it delivers them with grace.

šŸŖž Self-Examination: Truth Check

  1. Do I speak truth even when it’s uncomfortable—or do I stay silent to keep peace?
  2. Do I correct in love—or criticize to feel superior?
  3. Do I rejoice when truth is revealed—or when I get my way?

These questions aren’t easy—but they’re necessary. Because love without truth is just sentiment. And truth without love is just noise.

šŸ› ļø Call to Action: Love That Honors Truth

This week, let’s practice truth-centered love:

  • Speak truth to someone who needs it—with gentleness and humility.
  • Receive correction without defensiveness, see it as a gift.
  • Celebrate truth in your community, affirm those who walk in integrity.

Love rejoices in אֱמֶ×Ŗ  (’eĀ·met)—not because it’s easy, but because it’s holy. And when we love like that, we reflect the heart of YHVH and the example of Messiah.
